This is a special tour designed by Mokhtar Mitiko. It allows you to take in the desert, mediate, and enjoy the free space to dream, meet Mokhtar’s family, arriving back in Marrakech with a renewed point of view. All-inclusive tour.
Day 1
Essaouira – Ouarzazate – M’hamid
We will have an early morning departure (7:30 a.m.) from Essaouira by car. We will drive over the High Atlas Mountains – Tizi-n-Tichka with a visit to Ait Benhaddou, Morocco’s most famous Kasbah. After enjoying lunch in Ouarzazate we will travel on, hoping to arrive in M’hamid so we can enjoy more time at the dunes of Sahara. We will stay overnight in a comfortable 3-star hotel with a large swimming pool (or upgrade as you choose) and dinner.
Day 2
Erg Lihoudi – Sahara
After breakfast we will depart on a camel’s back. After a 2-hour ride into the desert, we arrive at Erg Lihoudi (Dunes of the Jews), a section of 100m-high dunes. We will enjoy a delicious desert dinner and sleep in a bivouac in the sand dunes of the Sahara.
Day 3
Erg Chigaga
We will have an early morning departure on the camels, continuing through the deep Sahara. From there we will be picked up by a 4×4 traveling to Erg Chigaga. The largest group of dunes of the region reaches a height of 300m and extends the length of 40km. Dinner with singing, drumming, and enjoying the nomads. We will spend the night in nomad tents at the dunes of Sahara.
Day 4
M’hamid – Marrakech
After breakfast in Sahara, we travel back through M’hamid where we will meet Mokhtar’s family and share mint tea with them. Then we will get in the 4×4 for the long day back to the bustling Marrakech. Moving from the desert to the plains, the desert gives way to date palmeries and oases along the Draa River. Between Zagora and Agdz we will see more than two- dozen Kasbahs and ksour (castles) lining both sides of the river. Continuing to drive takes you over the Anti Atlas mountain range with the expansive glimpse in the distance of the High Atlas Mountains.
